Organic Waste
All homes must have a separate bin
for organic waste disposal. Organic waste can also be composted in your
own composting equipment. City’s waste management must be notified when
you are composting your own organic waste.
Organic waste includes the
following:
 |
food
waste |
 |
fruit
and vegetable peelings |
 |
used
coffee grounds, tealeaves, coffee filters |
 |
fish and
other bones, egg shells |
 |
kitchen
paper towels, paper napkins |
 |
soil
from flowerpots, plant waste |
 |
cat
litter, litter from a pet cage
 |
NO
plastic, glass or metal |
 |
El muovia, lasia tai metallia |
 |
NO
nappies, vacuum cleaner’s dust bags or cigarette ends |
 |
NO
drink cartons |
|
TIP: Egg cartons are made of
decomposing material so put them in the composting equipment or in the
organic waste bin.
The organic waste bin will stay
cleaner if you use a protective waste bag in there. Suitable bags for the
organic waste bin are made of either paper or decomposing material. Drain
any liquid from the organic waste, because the wet waste makes it
difficult to empty the container especially during the winter.
Separately collected organic waste is composted and
then soil will be produced from it at Mustankorkea Composting Plant.
