Jyväskylä Human Technology City

IN BRIEF: University's 75th anniversary celebrations span entire year

The celebrations to mark the University of Jyväskylä's 75th anniversary in 2009 feature almost as many events as the number of years that have elapsed since the university was established. Events will be taking place not only in Jyväskylä but also elsewhere in Central Finland and in Finland as a whole. The first event was a function for the university's alumni held in Helsinki in January.

During the summer, International Summer Schools will bring research students to the university's campuses for courses in physics, chemistry, information technology and other disciplines. In October alumni will be invited to the University Days event. The university traces its history back to 1934, when Jyväskylä Teacher Training College was expanded to become Jyväskylä University College of Education, a multidisciplinary scientific university. The University of Jyväskylä now comprises seven faculties, and it has 2 600 employees and 15 000 students from 80 different countries.
