IN BRIEF: University of Jyväskylä strengthens ties with Tokyo

In November 2008 Pekka Neittaanmäki, Professor of Mathematical Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä, took up the post of visiting professor at the renowned Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT). Among other things Professor Neittaanmäki will participate in research projects at TIT.

The professorship serves to cement partnership between Tokyo Institute of Technology and the University of Jyväskylä. Cooperation opens up opportunities for students to study and acquire a degree in Tokyo. In addition professors from TIT will come to Jyväskylä to run courses.

"Courses of this sort are not on offer anywhere else in Finland", Neittaanmäki stresses. Professor Neittaanmäki will in turn visit Tokyo and give lectures some four to six times a year. The University of Jyväskylä and TIT have also begun research collaboration. A new research project will investigate how the effectiveness of companies' research and development activity is measured and develop new measures of effectiveness.
