The third generation of the national Centre of Expertise Programme has been launched for the period 20072013. The Centre of Expertise Programme profiles Jyväskylä as a city of emerging technologies. Implementation of the programme is the responsibility of Jyväskylä Innovation Ltd. The task of the Jyväskylä Region Centre of Expertise Programme is to utilize high levels of knowledge and expertise by international standards as a resource for business activities, the creation of jobs and regional development.
We are participating in five national clusters: Energy Technology, Forest Industry Future, Nanotechnology, Ubiquitous Computing, Tourism and Experience Management, says Veli-Pekka Heikkinen, Manager Director of Jyväskylä Innovation.
Joining these national clusters means easy access to world class expertise at universities, research institutes and technology companies all over Finland.
Our business networks include global players, growth companies and start-ups, Heikkinen states. Implementation of the Centre of Expertise Programme is entrusted to a subsidiary of Jyväskylä Regional Development Company Jykes Ltd, Jyväskylä Innovation, which will also serve as national coordinator of the Nanotechnology Cluster Programme for 20072010.
In the cluster programme development is pursued not only of nanotechnology proper but also of associated microtechnology and materials of the future related to these. Implementation takes place in Jyväskylä and at six other Centres of Expertise around Finland. Those responsible, assisted by their regional networks, make up an effective network providing easy access to top-flight Finnish expertise as a whole. The network covers over 90 per cent of the research and business field in this branch.
