The town hall is built entirely in brick with loadbearing internal walls and columns of either brick or concrete. The council chamber has massive brick walls, two bricks thick, while elsewhere they are a brick and a half. Several different styles of brick bonding are used in the building: the outer skin of the council-chamber tower is in English bond, while the office, residential and library wing is in the rarely used monk bond.
