ENROLLING FOR SCHOOL

Next year teaching begins on the 11th of August 2008, and ends on the 30th of  May 2008.

Enrolling for school and a letter of admission

The students starting school in autumn 2008 enroll for the school the pupil wishes to attend.

The parents can naturally choose a school other than the nearest one (the secondary option), if so, the parents pay for the school journeys.

When choosing pupils, priority is given to statutory school age children living in Jyväskylä.

Starting school earlier or later than usual

Compulsory education begins the year the child turns seven. The child can also start school a year earlier or later if wished. 

If starting school is to be postponed, the parents must apply for it well in advance. An informal application can be sent to the principal of the school, and statements from doctors, psychologists or day-care-centres can be included in the application. Advice for psychological tests is given from the day-care-centres or child-health-centres.
