How to apply to the upper secondary schools
Applying to upper secondary schools is done through the joint application form. In addition, a choice of subjects -form is filled out. The student's study counsellor mails the application forms to the Joint Application Service of Central Finland, and the choice of subjects -forms to the student's first-choice upper secondary school. Students who did not get an upper secondary school place through the joint application procedure, e.g. new residents, can enroll directly to the upper secondary schools in
June.
Application for Jyväskylä Lyseo upper secondary school's adult study line is not done through the joint application procedure. The school announces the time of application in the newspapers at the end of May. The actual application times are in the beginning of June and in the middle of August, although one can also apply to the school throughout the year when the school periods change.

The upper secondary school approval procedure
The provincial government of West Finland delivers the list of applicants to the upper secondary schools of Jyväskylä in order of the students' school report averages. The principals' meeting makes a proposal for choosing the students and the final decision is made by the Head of
Educational Development. In the school of Normaalikoulu, the decision is made by the leading principal of Normaalikoulu. Information about acceptance is given in the middle of June. The information can also be seen from notices at the school doors. Those who are accepted receive a letter of admission and must confirm their intention to attend the school within two weeks. They also have to deliver a copy of their basic education's final report to the upper secondary school's office at the beginning of the school year.
General admission policies
Students for Jyväskylä's upper secondary schools are chosen based on the final school report averages. Included in the average are the mother language, second national language, foreign languages, religion or philosophy of life, history and civics, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and geography. When choosing students, the 10th grade marks are taken into consideration if they are better than in the 9th grade final report.
