Opportunities are created for the youth’s own national, international and multicultural activities with the youth work carried out by the City of Jyväskylä Centre for the Youth Affairs. The youth’s growth, cultural and social learning and participation as well as their civil potentials are strengthened and supported with the youth work. The activities and the services are produced by the professional staff, agreements of the outsourcing service and with the help of a district wide cooperative network.
Youth Leaders
Trained youth leaders are responsible for the services and the activities organised by the youth work of the Centre for the Youth Affairs. Alongside of the permanent Youth Workers, there are temporary workers, students studying youth work and volunteers working at the facilities. The Youth Workers know the youth’s possibilities of spending their spare time, their environment, different youth cultures and their day-to-day life. The parents of the youth can also turn to the youth workers for help.
Youth facilities
The Centre for the Youth Affairs has youth facilities in seven different residential areas of the city. Youth facilities are open to all young people during most nights of the week. People can meet friends, play different kinds of games, listen to music, watch TV, use the internet, do their homework and make themselves some coffee or tea in a secure premises supervised by a Youth Worker. Making all kinds of things, club activities and different events with various themes are all essential parts of the activities at the youth facilities. Together, people can do baking or cooking, organise different evenings with themes, tournaments and events. Immigrant youths come to the youth facilities either alone or with some friends to play or meet friends just like other youths do.
