For lovers of cross-country skiing the network of trails in the Jyväskylä Region extends over hundreds of kilometres, of which several dozen are illuminated. The trails are all marked on the outdoor recreation map of the Jyväskylä region which is available in bookshops and from Tourist Information, price 14 €.

Laajis -Laajavuori ski centre

Laajis has undergone some major improvements for the 2011-12 season: a total of 12 slopes, Laajis World Cup park, a fantastic - and free - children's world with 2 carousel lifts, magic carpet lift and much, much more. The cross-country ski trails signposts and lean-to shelters have also been upgraded. The Skishop and ski service point guarantee that your equipment is fully up to the task. The restaurant and ski hire facilities have been refurbished and the spring sunshine can be enjoyed on the large terrace. The easy-to-use Skidata ticket system is in operation on the slopes. Gasthaus Laajis has 79 reasonably priced beds. A smoke sauna is available for hire; the restaurant is full licensed. The new 18-basket A-class frisbee golf course is in a league of its own!

The snowmaking systems have been upgraded, the new extended ski hire shop is finished and the new, first-class restaurant facilities and covered scenic terraces with magnificent views of Lake Päijänne provide a welcome for skiers and other visitors alike. A 60-seater Lapp teepee provides a cosy spot to take a break from the slopes and trails, a place to enjoy a hot cocoa or grill a sausage over an open fire. Riihivuori's refurbished Riihikelo restaurant serves its legendary delicious burgers and pizzas plus at weekends a tasty buffet lunch. The superb log-built Hotel Vuorikelo in turn provides accommodation with an atmosphere all of its own just a short step from the slopes and restaurant.
